How To: Making Your Very Own Delicious Sushi Rolls
Making your own sushi rolls can be a lot of fun, especially when you're entertaining friends and family. It's great for parties and as an ice-breaking activity. It's a fantastic way for couples and families to spend time together.
Here are Six Essential Items for Making Sushi Rolls
Before you get started, there are some items that you absolutely must have. Your first sushi making experience shouldn't be difficult or frustrating. Make sure you have these essential items to ensure a positive experience and encourage you to keep making sushi. It took me five or six times before I felt comfortable that I was making decent sushi rolls, but that is because I didn't start with the proper equipment.
Very Sharp Knives
My first three times making sushi, my rolls collapsed in on themselves when I cut them. The rolls completely fell apart and I ended up just throwing everything in a bowl and eating a "sushi salad." By the fourth time, I realized it was because my knives were dull. A sushi roll ("maki" in Japanese) requires a quick clean cut to get it into six or eight pieces. Get your knives as sharp as you can possibly make them.
Sushi Rolling Mat
In order to make tight sushi rolls, you must have a mat to roll them in. The first time I tried to roll sushi, I did so without the rolling mat and was not able to get them tight enough. The loose rolls easily fell apart. I recommend a bamboo sushi rolling mat ("maki-su" in Japanese). They are inexpensive and you can buy them at a supermarket in the Oriental Foods aisle. You don't have to buy an entire sushi kit to get the rolling mat.
Sushi Rice
Japanese sushi rice is white and short-grained. It sticks together very easily after it is cooked. Sticky rice is essential in keeping sushi together, whether it is a roll or rice ball ("nigiri" in Japanese). I mistakenly thought that sushi rice was just a gimmick and used Indian long-grained rice the first time I made sushi. The result was disastrous and nothing I made kept together. Each and every sushi roll disintegrated in my hand when I picked it up.
Rice Vinegar
Vinegar must be added to the rice to give it the desired flavor and consistency. Plus it keeps the rice from sticking to your hands too much when you are forming it. Rice vinegar must be used as opposed to regular distilled white vinegar. Other types of vinegar are too strong and will make the sushi taste very strange. Rice vinegar is mild and complements the taste.
Seaweed Paper
Paper made from seaweed ("nori" in Japanese) is what contains the sushi roll. It can be bought in most supermarkets. Without it, you will have nothing to roll your sushi in.
Food
Your sushi roll must have something in it besides rice, and this is where the creative part comes in. Many people mistakenly think sushi must contain raw fish, when in fact, it can contain anything your heart desires. You can make vegetarian sushi rolls, beef, cooked fish, raw fish, etc.
Vegetables that can be cut into long strips, such as carrots or cucumbers, work best. Any type of cooked fish is acceptable as long as it can be cut into small enough pieces to fit in a roll. If you are going to use raw fish, you should ask the fish monger at the supermarket for sushi-quality or sashimi-grade fish ("sashimi" is raw fish sushi without the rice or nori.) You do not want to eat raw fish that is poor quality or has been on display for several days.
Tuna and salmon are both good raw fish to use for your first time. They are easy to acquire, easy to use and have a great taste. Try to use the fish as soon as possible after bringing it home. Leaving the fish in your refrigerator for one day significantly reduces the quality. After three days you should not use it at all.
We've listed six essential items for making sushi rolls, although if you make nigiri, you will not need the knives, rolling mat or seaweed paper. Sushi rolls are perhaps the most popular type of sushi. I came up with this list after several failed attempts at making sushi rolls due to a lack of some of the above items.
There are many optional items for making sushi, such as a rice cooker, wasabi, ginger, sesame seeds and saran wrap. The above essential six items are the minimum required for getting you started on the right track to making good sushi rolls that will impress your friends and satisfy your desire for sushi without the high price.
If you love sushi, but hate sushi prices at restaurants, then making your own can give you great quality time and taste for a fraction of the cost. Once you get the hang of it, making sushi does not take any longer than preparing any other meal.

It may help to lower a patient's risk of developing HIV-related complications, such as cancers and new infections. This medications is classified as a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI). This medication will not prevent a patient from spreading HIV and it will not cure this disease.
Abacavir Side Effects
Abavacir, like all medications, can cause side effects.
The common side effects are as follows:
about 19 percent of patients experience nausea
about 13 percent of patients experience headaches
about 12 percent of patients experience malaise (general ill feeling and fatigue)
about 10 percent of patients experience nausea with vomiting
about 10 percent of patients experience sleep disorders, such as nightmares or insomnia
about 5 to 9 percent of patients experience the other common side effects which include the following: diarrhea, bone or muscle pain, viral respiratory infections (example: the common cold), fever or chills, nose/ear/throat infections, and dizziness.
Loss of appetite, body fat distribution changes, and mental or mood changes may also occur. Possible complications of this medication include anemia, low blood platelets (signs include abnormal bruising or bleeding), depression, anxiety, and neutropenia (frequent infections can be a sign of this complication).
A condition referred to as lactic acidosis can also occur when taking abacavir. This condition occurs when the levels of lactic acid in the blood are too high.
Sign of lactic acidosis include the following: feeling weak or tired, trouble breathing, feeling cold, lightheadedness or dizziness, persistent abdominal pain/vomiting/nausea, a tender or enlarged liver, muscle pain, abdominal pain, blue or cold feet and hands, irregular or slow heartbeat, shortness of breath, and weight loss.
Abacavir Contraindications
This medication may not mix well with certain medical conditions. Such condition include liver problems (such as cirrhosis of the liver, hepatitis B, or hepatitis C), alcohol use, kidney problems, heart disease and other heart problems, smoking, pregnancy, breast feeding, and other conditions as noted by the patient's doctor and/or pharmacist.
Abacavir Drug Interactions
Abacavir and certain other medications and drugs may interact. These include methadone and alcohol. Patients should tell their doctor and pharmacist about all herbs, prescription medications, supplements, vitamins, and over-the-counter medications they are taking so that their doctor and/or pharmacist can help to ensure no dangerous interactions occur when the patient begins taking abacavir.

Patient's Guide to Acyclovir or Aciclovir Risks and Side-effects
Acyclovir or Aciclovir ( abbreviated as ACV), is a prominent antiviral drug, marketed under trade names such as Cyclovir, Herpex, Acivir, Acivirax, Zovirax, Aciclovir, Telviran, Zovir.
As one of the most commonly-used antiviral drugs, it is primarily used for the treatment of herpes simplex virus infections, as well as in the treatment of herpes zoster (chicken pox and shingles). Aciclovir has a few advantages as it is extremely selective and low in cytotoxicity. It has also been used in the treatment of HIV-1 infections.
Oral acyclovir is used to treat initial genital herpes infections and to treat patients with recurrent (6 episodes per year) severe genital herpes.
Acyclovir reduces the pain and the number of lesions in those infected for the first time, and also decreases the frequency and severity in those with recurrent infections.
n the treatment of shingles, acyclovir reduces pain, shortens the healing time, and limits the spread of virus and the formation of new lesions.
Acyclovir can be used to treat chicken pox and acts to reduce healing time, limit the number of lesions, and reduce fever if used within the first 24 hours after the onset of the disease.
Acyclovir ointment is used topically to treat initial genital herpes where it has been shown to decrease pain, reduce healing time, and limit the spread of the infection.
Acyclovir may be taken with or without food. Acyclovir is excreted mainly by the kidney and dosages need to be reduced in patients with kidney dysfunction.
Acyclovir Drug interactions:
Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease and patients should avoid intercourse when they have visible lesions. Resistance to acyclovir can develop, especially with overuse.
Therefore, acyclovir should be used only for severe cases and only as long as needed. Long-term suppression for recurrent genital herpes should include periodic re-evaluations and trials without the drug or intermittent short-term treatments.
Acyclovir Side effects:
Rare side effects in patients treated short-term with acyclovir are nausea, vomiting, and headache. Long-term treatment has the additional potential for rash and diarrhea.
Acyclovir should be stored at room temperature in a tight container.
Caution! Before starting to take this medicine, it is vital that you should consult your doctor! Do not use it on your own initiative, without medical advice.
Key items: acyclovir effects, acyclovir side effects, acyclovir mg, zovirax acyclovir
Acyclovir notes:
Acyclovir that is prescribed along with 5 % Zovirax cream is an oral medication that is highly effective in treating herpes infection starting from the very initial to severe genital herpes infections. zovirax acyclovir helps in reducing the pain and lesions formed from the initial case, while decreasing the severity and frequency in developing persistent infections.
The acyclovir effects benefits for herpes patients in reducing the healing time and preventing the spread of virus and the development of new lesions. Acyclovir also helps in treating chicken pox by cutting down the healing time and curing the lesions along with fever if used within the first 24 hours after the disease is diagnosed. Application of Zovirax ointment helps in treating initial genital herpes, thereby reducing pain, healing time, and spread of the infection.
From 2 g to 800 mg, the dosage of taking Acyclovir defers in people to people and it is important to follow the prescription and Acyclovir mg while taking the medication to avoid over dosage. People with kidney dysfunction are required to take only mild doses of Acyclovir as it can worsen the disease. Always avoid the overuse of Acyclovir and remember to take it only for critical cases of herpes that requires treatment.
Some rare side effects in people using Acyclovir for short term include headache, vomiting, nausea etc. rash and diarrhea are some rare side effects of Acyclovir found in patients treated with Acyclovir for long-term. However, always consult your medical expert before taking the medicine.

Patient's Guide to Acarbose (Glucobay, Precose, Prandase) Risks and Side-effects
Acarbose also known as Glucobay, Precose and Prandase is used by western physicians to help control Type 2 (or Non-insulin dependent Diabetes mellitus NIDDM) diabetes-related high blood sugar (hyperglycaemia), preferably together with a proper diet and exercise regime.
It keeps blood sugar levels as close to normal as possible after eating, by slowing down how quickly starch breaks down in the gut.
This medication is sometimes used along with other medications like metformin to help diabetics control their blood sugar better. Learning about the possible contraindications, side effects, and drug interactions is necessary for your safety.
Acarbose Risks and Side Effects
Common gastrointestinal side effects, such as stomach upset, diarrhea, gas, and stomach pain are common during the few weeks of taking this medication. As you adjust and follow your prescribed diet, these side effects typically subside.
Serious side effects will require you to get medical attention. These are rare and include unusual tiredness, severe abdominal pain, dark urine, persistent vomiting or nausea, and jaundice.
This medication does not cause hypoglycemia, but this condition can occur when taking this drug. Symptoms include cold sweat, dizziness, shaking, headache, feet or hand tingling, blurry vision, drowsiness, fast heartbeat, fainting, and hunger.
If your blood sugar rises, known as hyperglycemia, you may experience thirst, confusion, flushing, fruity breath odor, increased urination, drowsiness, and rapid breathing.
Acarbose Contraindications
This medication may be contraindicated for you. If you have certain allergies, are breastfeeding, or pregnant, avoid this drug unless specifically told to take it.
Avoid this drug if you have kidney disease, diabetic ketoacidosis, bowel problems, intestinal problems, intestinal blockage, severe liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, cirrhosis, intestinal ulcers, or an absorption or digestion disorder.
Acarbose Drug Interactions
Certain drugs will interact with Acarbose. These include activated charcoal, amylase, digestive enzyme products, pancreatin, digoxin, pramlintide, gymnema, fenugreek, ginseng, certain other herbal drugs, blood sugar-lowering medications, quinolone antibiotics, high-dose salicylates, levofloxacin, gatifloxacin, isocarboxazid, MAO inhibitors, blood sugar-increasing medications, diet pills, diuretics, HIV protease inhibitors, certain anti-psychotic drugs, corticosteroids, niacin, prednisone, hydrochlorothiazide, ritonavir, olanzapine, and clozapine.
Other medications that may have to be acoided include beta-blockers medications, propranolol, timolol, metoprolol, and glaucoma eye drops.
If you are already taking low-dose aspirin, continue to take it as your doctor instructs. If you are not currently taking low-dose aspirin, consult your physician about taking 81 milligrams to 325 milligrams a day.
It is important to have all necessary laboratory testing done as your doctor orders it to ensure this medication is working well and not causing serious problems. Your family physician will also regularly conduct blood tests to ensure that your long term blood sugar level is under control.

Woot! Audition for American Idol via MySpace!
American Idol is by far The Biggest Talent Hunt competition on TV, and it has a rabid fan following that transcends international borders. This year American Idol will celebrate its 10th season and to mark the occasion, some new rules have come into play to make it easier for contestants to audition.
Fox TV network recently announced that they have teamed up with the popular social networking site MySpace so that people can send their recorded performances to the panel of judges online.
The show is going through some major overhauling because most of the old panel of judges are now gone. Simon Cowell, Ellen Degeneres and Kara DioGuardi have been replaced with Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. It seems that Fox is really trying to spice things up and take the show to the next level by including music icons of the industry like Tyler and Lopez in the show.
"American Idol" has partnered with MySpace to revolutionize the show's long-standing audition process. Beginning Wednesday, September 15 to through October 6, hopefuls between the ages of 15 and 28 will have the opportunity to submit an audition video exclusively on MySpace at www.myspace.com/americanidol.
Lots of young hopefuls are already cheering the new since it was announce hours ago. Forget the long queues and jittery butterflies in the stomach! Now there's another way for potential “Idols” to enter the competition, through American Idol's MySpace Page.
Everyone can now set up their digital camcorder or webcam, record their performance and send it to the American Idol website through MySpace. Contestants are allowed to sing from a list of popular songs like Bill Wither’s “Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone,” Keith Urban’s “Kiss a Girl,” etc.
Entrants should demonstrate their stellar singing ability by performing one of the songs from the approved list a cappella. Videos are limited to 40 seconds in length, and are limited to one submission per person. Auditions will be judged in a similar fashion to the live audition cities and a select number will advance to the next round of callbacks in Los Angeles.
All recorded auditions must be submitted latest by October 6, 2010. The candidates chosen from the online audition will be called to Los Angeles for a final round of evaluation in front of the judges. American idol online audition will surely open up new doors of opportunity for talented singers.
The lower age limit for the competition has been dropped to 15 and the show will not have Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi as judges in the upcoming season’s show.
The show has worldwide television audience since it was starred some ten years ago. It has got its fair share of controversy and it remains to be seen how the show will survive the absence of Simon Cowell who carted an image for himself as the toughest judge to please. Recently singer Jennifer Lopez came onboard as a judge for American Idol, with a pay package of a whooping $12 million.
